The Golden Sponsor Comes Forth

By Ruddy Allen – Jamaica Observer – Friday, September 21, 2018

THE purse for the 46th running of the prestigious Grade One Gold Cup received a significant boost of $1 million from new sponsor Cal’s Manufacturing Limited, it was announced at a press conference held at Caymanas Park on Tuesday. The total purse for the Gold Cup now stands at $3 million. Previously the total purse stood at $1.75 million.
The Gold Cup, confined to three-year-olds and upward, is run over seven furlongs (1,400m) and set for Saturday, October 13 at Caymanas Park.
On Gold Cup day special emphasis is going to be placed on the punters as there will be one lucky winner of a 14-karat gold chain.
Cal’s is also hosting a special breakfast (Cal’s Mackerel served with bananas, dumplings and yam) at the track on the day before the actual Gold Cup race.
Speaking at the launch, sales and marketing executive at Cal’s Manufacturing, the vivacious Sabrina Thomas gave details of her company’s sponsorship.
“The Gold Cup over the many years of its existence has produced some truly outstanding performances which is synonymous with Cal’s Manufacturing excellent record of producing quality products,” Thomas said.
Thomas then revealed that they are promoting their flagship product Cal’s Tomato Ketchup with the Gold Cup taking the formal title of the Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup.
“The Gold Cup has all the right ingredients to create probably the most competitive race on our racing calendar…but one thing was missing…a golden sponsor. That is why Cal’s Manufacturing Limited through its flagship product Cal’s Tomato Ketchup – the richer…thicker…more affordable Tomato ketchup is stepping forward to fill that gap,” she pointed out.
Director of Marketing at Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) Peter Green, welcomed the sponsorship and acknowledged Thomas and her company for their strong commitment to horse racing in Jamaica.
“For many years, having stood on the outside looking in, there were a few companies that became synonymous with Caymanas Park. One of those said companies is here with us today (Tuesday) and we are happy to announce that Cal’s Manufacturing Limited is back, and ready to get the ball rolling in a big way. They are no strangers to Caymanas Park, this is, however, a new partnership for SVREL and Cal’s but we are so pleased to have them on board for this momentous occasion,” Green said.
Paul Roman, racing manager at SVREL, gave an overview of the event and encouraged racing fans to come out and enjoy the Cal’s Tomato Ketchup Gold Cup.
‘The Gold Cup (GR1) is the most important and prestigious handicap race on the racing calendar as it brings together the best sprinters and the best stayers over seven furlongs (1400m). The distance can be too long for a sprinter and a too short for a horse that prefers more real estate (longer distance), thus, the tactical ability of both the horse and jockey will be crucial if the combination wants to be victorious.
“This race could see the likes of 2017 Horse of the Year She’s A Maneater, sprint champion Chace The Great, Prime Minister’s Stakes winner Will In Charge, The Viceroy Trophy winner Houdini’s Magic, and St Leger winner Marquesas line-up in what should be an extremely competitive race,” Roman said.

New SVREL CEO Shares Company's Vision, Targets Expansion

By Leighton Levy

Newly appointed CEO of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment (SVREL) Major Hugh Blake, said he has hit the ground running and is already executing plans to expand the gaming company into new markets.
Major Blake, who was among guests at Thursday’s press launch of the Supreme Ventures 2-Y-O horse racing series at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston, began his job on Monday. He has immediately rolled his sleeves up and got to work, telling SportsMax.TV that he shares the vision of his employer.
“Essentially, my vision is aligned with the vision of the board. We hope to be able to diversify the streams of revenue both for the horse-racing and non-horse racing revenue-generating possibilities and a lot of the plans pre-date me. There are in place and they are good plans so what is left for me to do is to ensure that those plans are executed properly in a timely way,” he said while indicating that there were things he wants to take on immediately.
“There are a number of low hanging fruits. One of those is the expansion of the Off Track Betting (OTB) sites, putting them into areas that are virgin territories so we will be doing that and that I think promises to generate significantly more revenues. There is also a great possibility for simulcasting – outbound as well as inbound.”
SVREL’s Director of Marketing Peter Green announced on Thursday plans to open 10 OTBs in Chapelton, Clarendon, Highgate, St. Mary and Montego Bay. The company also plans to open 30 by the end of the month.
The company has also relaunched its mobile betting platform MBET.
Beyond, expansion, Major Blake revealed another immediate objective.
“One of the priorities would be to improve the facilities (at Caymanas Park) so that we offer a better customer experience. So we are going through the planning phase and strategizing how best to do that,” Major Blake said, adding that he believes he is up for the challenge.
“I am very excited about it. I see tremendous possibilities. It is just a question of getting them done and I hope to provide the kind of leadership that will get them done.”

Supreme Ventures Group Goes Mobile and Online

By Balford Henry

Jamaica’s gaming giant, Supreme Ventures Ltd, has announced that it will be swiftly moving into the mobile and online gaming arena.
SVL President and CEO Ann Dawn Young Sang, said that in keeping with the strategic vision she outlined earlier this year, the Supreme Ventures Group is swiftly moving into the mobile and online gaming arena in order to provide convenient, innovative solutions for customers across their suite of products.
Through their recent system conversion to world-leading technology and service provider AMTOTE for off-track betting and at Caymanas Park, the gaming market leader will be introducing to the market MBet, a web-based platform, which allows punters to bet from any mobile device.
Customers will be able to place a full suite of bets on either local horse racing, or live simulcast racing from several overseas tracks, including Gulf Stream in Florida and Woodbine in Canada.
MBet was implemented by the Caymanas team in July, and currently has some 400 active accounts as part of a first phase of testing.
“We have been working hard on providing enhanced solutions for our customers, and MBet is one of the best options in mobile horse-racing. It’s early days yet and the feedback from the testing phase is already overwhelmingly positive,” Michael Bernard, chairman of SVL’s horse-racing arm, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) informed the press.
“At this point, we are building out the support services, through our SVL-owned regional payment centres, to ensure that punters enjoy the full benefits of the ease and convenience of this exciting new channel,” Bernard added.
While MBet is expanding the options for horse-racing punters, SVL has also launched a new sports betting solution through their brand JustBet.
“We started a soft launch phase of our sports betting mobile solution earlier in the summer and we are really motivated by the results and the feedback,” Young Sang said.
“Expansion into mobile and online across all our products is a critical part of our growth strategy, and we are looking forward to the full launch of these new solutions,” she added.
At the start of this year, the CEO stated that the company would be including, as part of its strategic development plans, the dynamic engagement of customers through new and exciting gaming solutions and continued innovation in the company’s product offerings.
“This is just the beginning of a very exciting phase of Supreme Ventures’ development as a group,” she said.
“We made a commitment to our customers that we would be looking at new ways of enhancing their experience and our product offering, and we are working hard to deliver on that promise,” she said.
Mobile betting is fast becoming the first choice for people gambling online and has some obvious benefits such as no need for a computer every time you need to bet, and punters can bet from wherever they are in the world, whenever they like, by simply using their smartphones.
Experts say that the need for instant betting access has pushed the mobile gaming revolution even further than mobile casinos.
Now punters can enjoy dedicated sports betting apps, as well as useful feature apps like odds calculators and stats collectors.
US states have been taking steps to legalise sports betting since May, when the Supreme Court ruled that any state can legalise sports betting.
