Maxfield Park Children’s Home Gets $2.8M State-Of-The-Art Fire Alarm System

The Maxfield Park Children’s Home in Kingston was, on Wednesday (January 29), officially presented with a $2.8-million state-of-the-art fire alarm system by the Supreme Ventures Foundation on Wednesday (January 29).

The facility, which has been installed at the institution, is expected to greatly assist in safeguarding the lives of the wards and staff.

The system, its installation, training in its use for personnel at the home, form part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information and the Foundation last year, to heighten fire safety in children’s homes.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Alando Terrelonge, who spoke during the presentation ceremony at the home, welcomed the provision while emphasising the importance of the Foundation’s overall gesture.

“We are speaking about hundreds of children in State care whose lives will be protected, who can sleep more soundly and safely knowing that in the event of a fire they would have been trained and staff members would have been trained,” he said.

Mr. Terrelonge encouraged more corporate companies to forge partnerships with the Government to assist in heightening the safety of children and the country, in general.

Director of Supreme Ventures Foundation, Heather Goldson, said more than $30 million is being invested in the project, which will see some 30 State homes islandwide receiving fully upgraded fire alarm systems, training from the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) and, in some instances, perimeter fencing by February 2021.

Ms. Goldson noted that, to date, 12 homes have benefited from the investment to the tune of more than $15 million.

She added that over the next two weeks, work is slated to be concluded at four additional homes in rural communities.

“These will quickly be followed by another four that are in the administrative process, and while this is happening, we continue with site visits and assessments,” she said.

Additionally, Ms. Goldson said intense refresher courses in the utilisation of the equipment and safety procedures are also being provided.

“The Fire Brigade, who have been our invaluable partners in the execution of this project, instruct all personnel on the ground on how to use the new fire extinguishers, the proper lifts and carriers for the physically challenged and possibly injured and, most importantly, how to evacuate the buildings with their wards,” she added.

In expressing gratitude, Board Chair for Maxfield Park Children’s Home, Empress Golding, commended Supreme Ventures Foundation for the undertaking, noting that the facility caters to more than 100 children.

During the ceremony, the home was presented with a fire-safety certificate by members of the JFB.

The Maxfield Park Children’s Home was established in September 1918. It is the largest and oldest such facility in Jamaica, and serves as a place of safety for many children who have been abandoned or made homeless.

Supreme Ventures acquires assets of Champion Gaming

Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL)has announced the agreement to acquire the assets of Champion Gaming Company Limited (CG), a Jamaican-owed company with over 1,200 machines in the Route Video Lounge Terminal, (VLT — slot machines) business in Jamaica, representing around 15 per cent of the slot machines market operating in the island.
In a statement, the group referenced a recent BGLC report which noted that over 8,000 slot machines are currently operating in the island. Bingo Investments, the group’s subsidiary will sign the deal in which the majority stake in Champion will be acquired.
The company expects this transaction to be accretive to earnings and adds that the acquisition is strategically aligned with SVL’s strategy to expand in new and existing market segments and product streams. The new acquisition will also enable better partnerships with small business owners who benefit significantly from the slot machine industry, providing a partnership with a stronger entity, and enabling better representation of their interests at the regulatory table, the company said.
President & CEO of Supreme Ventures Limited, Ann-Dawn Young Sang said that with this acquisition, the company will be able to achieve greater economies of scale, leverage its synergies, and solidify its market position while expanding its product base in the gaming slots industry. “We continue to execute on our growth and expansion strategy, which creates value for our employees, our over 5,000 shareholders, and our main partner, the Government,” stated Young Sang.
She emphasised that the strengthening of the partnership between SVL and the Government is essential to the sustained growth and development of the country’s economy, as SVL is one of the country’s largest tax contributors.
She added that operationally, the current Chairman and General Manager Damian Chin-You and Preston Chin, will each remain in their positions for another year during the transition process. During this time a new board will be appointed.
The deal is expected to be finalised in January 2020.

Supreme Ventures Implements New Management Structure

Durrant Pate – Jamaica Observer – November 6, 2019
Gaming company Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) has implemented a new management structure in preparation for more aggressive expansion across the region.
SVL announced that the change comes amid the streamlining of their group of companies in which President & CEO Ann-Dawn Young Sang will spearhead the regional implementation. She will be supported by the heads of two new operational divisions in SVL’s wholly owned subsidiary, Prime Sports (Jamaica) Limited.
The two new divisions are Gaming and Operations and Shared Services, which will be headed by Xesus Johnston and Dennis Chung, as co-CEOs of Prime Sports with responsibility for the two new divisions, respectively.
In a posting to the Jamaica Stock Exchange, SVL says “Young Sang will remain president & CEO, and maintain her positions on the boards of SVL, Prime Sports (Jamaica), Supreme Ventures Racing & Entertainment and Supreme Ventures Enterprises in Guyana. The company’s expansion plans are largely being driven by the build-out of operations in their newest subsidiary in Guyana, and in other opportunities.”

According to Peart, “We are strengthening our team and building our capabilities to enable our continued development through regional expansion. This move enables us to leverage our talent pool to enable increased focus and development in critical growth areas, while ensuring that our local operations are fully maximised. Lotto jackpot at $235m surpasses Super Lotto

Jamaica Observer – August 23, 2019

The Supreme Ventures (SVL) Lotto jackpot now stands at a whopping $235 million and is currently larger than the gaming company’s international Super Lotto jackpot.

This is the third time in SVL’s history that the local Lotto has surged pass the $200 million mark and has triggered a rush at outlets across the island, the company said in a statement.

In February 2010, the jackpot escalated to $240 million when it was won with numbers 06, 07, 27, 33, 34 and 35, SVL said.

The Lotto jackpot again rolled over to a historic $395 million in 2015 before it was hit with the winning numbers 02, 05, 10, 11, 27 and 39 — the highest jackpot won in Lotto history.

“We are just as excited as our players to see the Lotto jackpot escalate way past the $200 million mark. This homegrown jackpot will help one, or even more Jamaicans, realise their dreams and become overnight millionaires, but only if they have a ticket. With every draw the jackpot will only get bigger, so our players should make sure that they have as many tickets as possible for every opportunity to win,” said Vice President for Marketing Communications & Sponsorships, Gail Abrahams.

“We are eager and ready to hand that money over, so we want everyone to get their ticket and secure their chance to change their lives in an instant.”
