SURE BET! Supreme Ventures on board to take gymnastics to next Olympics

Dwayne Richards – Jamaica Observer – February 18, 2022

Supreme Ventures recently announced that they will be providing support to Jamaica’s national gymnastics programme for the next three years.

The announcement was made last weekend, just one week before the start of the newly renamed Supreme Ventures Gymnastics Classic 2022, which takes place Saturday and Sunday.

Speaking at the press conference at Jamaica Gymnastics headquarters, Supreme Ventures Corporate Communications and Public Relations Manager Chloleen Daley-Muschett surprised Jamaica Gymnastics President Nicole Grant-Brown and the audience with the news that their partnership would not be for one, but for three years.

“Supreme Ventures is proud to support this vision and it is our distinct pleasure to vault into the sport of gymnastics by virtue of our expanded three-year sponsorship of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA).

“The spectacular athleticism and beauty of the sport of gymnastics is a pleasure to witness, and we hope that this exhibition will inspire and educate these young gymnasts to become world champions– climbing even higher than the high standard set by Jamaica’s Olympians Toni-Ann Williams and Danusia Francis,” she said.

Daley-Muschett says that she envisions Jamaica becoming a powerhouse in gymnastics in much the same way as they are in track and field, which Supreme Ventures has been supporting for many, many years.

“There is no reason why Jamaica cannot also become a powerhouse in the sport of gymnastics, we have the talent, we have the drive and we have an endless supply of passion. Jamaica is coming along on that journey as we become accustomed to our athletics programmes expanding to include sports that we are not as accustomed to as others,” she said.

A delighted Grant-Brown thanked the JOA for establishing the partnership between Jamaica Gymnastics and Supreme Ventures.

“We are happy and elated that the vision of the Jamaica Olympic Association is wide enough to recognise that sports is important for the development of our country and have put so much effort in helping the sport of gymnastics to grow by marrying us with a partnership of this nature.

“Supreme Ventures, we thank you for providing such well-needed resources at this stage of our development. It shows that you are one to work with sports in Jamaica from the beginning and not just when they are on top.

“We want to be Jamaica’s most consistent Olympics sports and most participated by our youth in this country and we cannot do it without companies like yours,” she said.

Grant-Brown wants to see the sport introduced to children at a very early age as it can help with their development in other sports as well.

“It is important to note that gymnastics is the foundation for all sports and one of our goals is to incorporate the sport in the schools’ curriculum from kindergarten to grade nine as it is done in other Caribbean countries. “This is to enable the development of not just gymnastics but other sport as it enables and quickly develop motor skills, discipline and a strong and flexible body which is needed in all sports and that’s what gymnastics is about.”

The two-day National Championships will take place this Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 am each day.

The event brings together over 100 gymnasts from all affiliated clubs in Jamaica as well as interest from overseas and national aspirants whose desire is to compete for Jamaica.

This year there are competitors from the USA, Canada, the UK, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. All will showcase their skills in a friendly, competitive environment where all covid protocols are and will be observed.

The sponsorship from Supreme Ventures has enabled the association to add two much-needed judges to now include four highly qualified judges as part of the competition to properly judge and assess the athletes at the highest standard.

$75 million Lotto jackpot winner plans to pay off mother's mortgage

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The newest Lotto millionaire is counting his win as a blessing as he says he plans to use his money to transform the lives of his immediate family members.

Mr Mckenzie bought the winning ticket at Liz’s Lotto in Portmore, St Catherine on December 8 to secure a $75 million payout.

The winning numbers were 12, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 30.

McKenzie said he wants to use his winnings to transform the lives of his loved ones and revealed that paying off his mother’s mortgage will be among the number of personal issues he plans to address.

“I want to make life comfortable for me and my immediate family. I want to make life a little different for the people closest to me. Make things easier,” he said while sharing how those closest to him helped him nab the $75 million.

“Most of the numbers, well some of them, are a combination of numbers having to do with people that are important in my life like their date of birth etc. They mean something to me.”

In a release from Supreme Ventures, McKenzie encouraged his fellow gamers to remain optimistic about their chances of winning.

“Based on my attitude and drive, I have always felt like I would get somewhere based on my ambition. But never in my wildest dreams would I think that I would win. I just knew it was possible. So the only thing I can really say is to maintain a positive attitude and mind and see where it goes. You can never tell but dreams do come true,” he said.

In the meantime, Supreme Ventures says it is proud to continue transforming the lives of regular Jamaican citizens and making winners every day through all its games.

SVF fetes children in State care

The Supreme Ventures Foundation (SVF) was back in full swing last week as it hosted its annual Christmas treat for children in State care.

With the annual treat scrapped last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, much to the disappointment of the SVF team, this year they pulled out every stop to ensure that it was good for the wards of the State.

With its long-term partner the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), the SVF team took Christmas cheer to approximately 50 children at the Summerfield Home in Clarendon and the New Vision Children’s Home in Christiana, Manchester.

Following the treat SVF Director Heather Goldson said she was proud about this year’s execution of the two-day event.

“I am so pleased that our foundation was able to put a smile on the faces of these children, they deserve it. The past two years have been very difficult, not only for adults but particularly for children, and although our children in care are such brave survivors, we know that this added strain has taken a toll,” said Goldson.

“So this initiative was not only about gifts and having fun, it was about inspiring hope in our children. We wanted to remind them that there is still much to celebrate and be grateful for,” added Goldson.

Alongside the hosting of a party, SVF surprised children at the two homes with cupcakes, a gift from each child’s wish list and a Christmas tree. Additionally, house mothers received a Christmas gift from the foundation. Each house mother received $20,000 in supermarket vouchers to help with Christmas expenses.

SVF donates more than $12 million to KPH renovation efforts

SUPREME Ventures Foundation (SVF) has donated approximately $13 million to renovate and improve the functionality of the main doctors’ lounges at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).

The largest allocations will go towards refurbishing the anaesthesia area and the nurse’s lounge at $4 million and $2.3 million, respectively.

According to SVF, the hope is to support the provision of better working conditions, while boosting morale among the staff at the hospital.

SVF director Heather Goldson pointed to the importance of supporting health-care workers, particularly during this difficult period caused by COVID-19.

“Our health-care workers are consistently under tremendous pressure, and the last two years could easily be measured at the regular level multiplied by 10. We have to support them in any way we can, and we hope this project, once completed, helps in making their lives easier and more comfortable as they work tirelessly to save lives,” said Goldson.

The donation formed part of the foundation’s continued efforts to aid in the improvement of the country’s health-care sector.

Earlier this year, SVF donated a mobile ultrasound machine to the diagnostic department at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). The foundation also donated $4 million to the UHWI in 2018 which assisted in the purchase of a portable echocardiogram machine.

As the fight against COVID-19 continues, SVF hopes to encourage health-care workers and all Jamaicans to stay positive as each person plays their part to end the pandemic.

“Our front-line heroes are so deserving of our ultimate respect, recognition and support; donations to projects such as these ensure we recognise their sacrifice,” stated Goldson.

In the meantime, head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at KPH Dr Christine Stephen said the hospital is grateful for the donation.

“Thanks to the gracious support of the Supreme Ventures Foundation, the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the Kingston Public and Victoria Jubilee hospitals will benefit from well needed renovations to several areas of the hospital we heavily utilise. These include our administrative office, lounge and call-room facilities as well as a family conference area,” said Stephen.

She noted that the department was thankful for the initiative as it will significantly improve the working conditions of doctors and nurses who spend a considerable amount of time within the hospital caring for the island’s sickest patients.
