St Mary Has New $277m Lotto Winner

Jamaica Gleaner – October 14, 2019
Up to last night, no one had come forward with the $277-million winning Lotto ticket since the numbers were read out Saturday night, but for whoever it is, senior portfolio adviser at Proven Wealth Limited Jason McPherson says financial discipline is key to staying rich.
Saturday’s winning numbers were 03, 11, 18, 21, 29, and 32, with bonus ball 37. The sole winner, who has up to 90 days to claim the jackpot, purchased the ticket at Snoopy’s Wholesale and Gaming in Belfield, St Mary. This is the third time in history that someone has won a jackpot of more than $200 million.
“If it wasn’t there before, they need to enable some financial discipline – live below their means and invest the funds in instruments that can give them income over time but can also provide some amount of growth. It could be a mixture of strong financial assets such as blue-chip stocks, investment-grade bonds, and real estate,” McPherson advised when contacted by The Gleaner.
The Gleaner was told yesterday by Supreme Ventures communications personnel that winners usually do not take long to come in.
“Usually within two to three weeks, definitely before [the stipulated] 90 days. Note that all a winner needs is his or her ID and the signed ticket. Make sure the ticket is safe and dry.”

60 YEARS AT CAYMANAS PARK: Promoting company SVREL recognises stakeholders, staff members

RUDDY ALLEN – Jamaica Observer – September 17, 2019
In continuation of celebrating 60 years of thoroughbred racing at Caymanas Park, Supreme Venture Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), the sole promoter of local horse racing recognised stakeholders and staff members for their long and fruitful service to the industry.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston last Friday evening (September 13). Lorna Gooden, general manager at SVREL, congratulated the awardees for their commitment to building the sport of horse racing in Jamaica.
“Jamaica continues to dominate the horse racing industry in the Caribbean and our horsemen are household names in the country with many achieving international acclaim.
“None of this would be possible without the dedicated men and women who have worked tirelessly over the decades and seeing them here this evening with us is a symbol of loyalty and camaraderie which implies a strong sense of belonging.
“Caymanas Park is fortunate to have a dedicated team whose many years of commitment and hard work has earned us respect as innovators and as a cultural mainstay among Jamaicans.
“To tonight’s (Friday) awardees, what each of you has contributed is nothing less than a shining symbol of your passion, dedication, and perseverance and may each of you continue to be a model for your peers and colleagues.
“Caymanas Park and SVREL sincerely thank you for your commitment. It has been a tremendous journey marked with memories that we will continue to honour and keep alive through Caymanas Park and its surrounding communities. Thank you for transformational work that you have done and continue to do as we celebrate 60 years taking horse racing entertainment into the future.
“Let us continue on this momentum of a strong and enterprising team spirit taking on new challenges and making full use of the opportunities that are presented to us. Congratulations once again to those who are being honoured tonight. And let me wish you a Happy 60th anniversary,” Gooden said.
Leroy Tomlinson, one of many trainers who were recognised, has been serving the industry for 31 years and is still going strong in the business.
“It’s very nice to get recognised in the racing industry, and yes, I appreciate it a lot and I hope that some more people can get recognised because there are still a lot of people down there [at Caymanas Park] that don’t get recognised, but for my award — I love it,” the 54-year-old Tomlinson told The Supreme Racing Guide.
He continued: “I will cherish this award. I have been in racing from I was 14 years old and that’s some 40 years ago, and I have no regrets choosing a profession in the sport. The Jockey’s Club gave me my first licence and many people in racing right now don’t know anything about the Jockey’s Club.”
Another trainer Gresford “Greasie” Smith, who has been in the business for 39 years, was beaming with joy after receiving his award. “Well, it is always a good thing that your industry recognises and appreciates the work that you have put in over the years. I am really happy to be recognised and at such a wonderful presentation function as the one tonight.
“I have been at Caymanas Park for 39 years and my career has been good. In any profession, you are going to have your ups and downs but for the most part, I think, I would do it again. I must thank Supreme Venture Racing and Entertainment Limited for this recognition and I will continue to do the hard work,” Smith said.

Supreme Ventures Foundation supports children's home fire victims

The Supreme Ventures Foundation (SVF) hit the road last Thursday to bring back-to-school cheer to children from the Jamaica National and Strathmore children’s homes.
The team brought school bags packed with stationery, personal care items and 40 book vouchers valued at $5,000 each to the wards of the Jamaica National Children’s Home (JNCH), who are housed at the Stony Hill-based Homestead facility.
The 40 children were relocated to Homestead after a fire destroyed the Jamaica National Children’s Home in Papine, St. Andrew on August 9.
SVF Director Heather Goldson, who led the team, said they felt compelled to reach out to the children from JNCH after they were advised of how much the children had lost in the fire by officers from the Child Protection and Family Services Agency.
“We are grateful that no lives were lost, and no one was injured in that fire, however, the children still suffered a tremendous setback when most of their school supplies and personal items were destroyed. Our donation will help to replace some of what was lost and bring back a semblance of normalcy back to their lives,” she said.
Two of the children among the JNCH wards were also former wards of Walker’s Place of Safety which was also destroyed by fire in January 2018. Two children lost their lives in that blaze.  The event further reinforced the importance of the Supreme Ventures Foundation’s current drive to update fire safety in homes across the country.
After the handover at Homestead, the team travelled to the Strathmore Children’s Home in Spanish Town, St Catherine where they donated another 40 packed bags and book vouchers valued at $200,000.
Supreme Ventures Group, Vice President, Marketing, Communications and Sponsorship, Gail Abrahams said the Foundation is aimed at maintaining relationships with the various homes,
“Children in State Care is one of the mandates of the Foundation and we are truly vested in the homes we engage. We had our Labour Day project at Strathmore and refurbished their laundry facilities and updated their fire safety equipment.  We are invested in doing what we can to improve the circumstances and surroundings that our most vulnerable children live in” she said.

Robotics Campers Get $200,000 In Scholarships – Supreme Ventures Foundation Invests In Communities

Jamaica Gleaner- August 28, 2019
The Supreme Ventures Foundation wrapped up its fourth successful staging of its Junior Creators Robotics Camp with the awarding of $200,000 in scholarships to four campers last Friday.
Daniel Walker, from St Richard’s Primary School; Zein Willis and Rhys Farquharson from Half-Way Tree Primary School, and Samuel Ellis from Denbigh Primary School in Clarendon, all walked away from the prize-giving ceremony with trophies and $50,000 each to start the new school year.
Alando Terrelonge, minister of state in the Ministry of Education, commended all 60 campers and parents who attended the event that brought the curtain down on the weeklong camp.
He encouraged the children, aged 8 to 11, to pursue their education in earnest as it would afford them a better life when they grow up.
“An education is the best gift you can give yourself. It’s the one thing no one can take away from you. Nothing can mash up or steal your education; it will never dry rot or be obsolete. Education is the gift that will allow you to empower yourself. The more you learn, the more you will be able to achieve your dreams,” he said.
The Junior Creators Camp, which kicked off on August 19 and ended on August 23, focused on bringing the fun of robotic engineering, programming and coding to children from primary schools, using Legos and other child-friendly devices. The camp also serves to provide a creative environment for children to broaden their minds and impart the values of teamwork and respect.
Heather Golding, Supreme Ventures Foundation director, said Supreme Ventures was intent on making just as strong an impact on Jamaica through its foundation as it has through its core operations.
“We have a strong desire to make an impact on the children in the communities in which we operate, which is why this year we also invited schools from the communities around Caymanas Park. Supreme is committed to making an investment in the children from these communities,” Golding said.
“The camp keeps pace with what is happening in the world of technology, every year there is something new to engage the children. The camp is not only about what they can achieve; but feeling better about their accomplishments; building a sense of pride and achievement that they will use in their respective classrooms in September,” she continued.
Approximately 60 students from Independence City, Gregory Park, Half-Way Tree, and St Richard’s primary schools, as well as Greenwich All-Age School, attended the one-week camp.

Lotto jackpot at $235m surpasses Super Lotto

Jamaica Observer – August 23, 2019

The Supreme Ventures (SVL) Lotto jackpot now stands at a whopping $235 million and is currently larger than the gaming company’s international Super Lotto jackpot.

This is the third time in SVL’s history that the local Lotto has surged pass the $200 million mark and has triggered a rush at outlets across the island, the company said in a statement.

In February 2010, the jackpot escalated to $240 million when it was won with numbers 06, 07, 27, 33, 34 and 35, SVL said.

The Lotto jackpot again rolled over to a historic $395 million in 2015 before it was hit with the winning numbers 02, 05, 10, 11, 27 and 39 — the highest jackpot won in Lotto history.

“We are just as excited as our players to see the Lotto jackpot escalate way past the $200 million mark. This homegrown jackpot will help one, or even more Jamaicans, realise their dreams and become overnight millionaires, but only if they have a ticket. With every draw the jackpot will only get bigger, so our players should make sure that they have as many tickets as possible for every opportunity to win,” said Vice President for Marketing Communications & Sponsorships, Gail Abrahams.

“We are eager and ready to hand that money over, so we want everyone to get their ticket and secure their chance to change their lives in an instant.”
