First SVL Lotto winner in 2021 snares $69m

KINGSTON, Jamaica— Supreme Venture Limited’s (SVL) first Lotto winner for 2021, using the name R Nelson, says the winning numbers came to him in a series of dreams and rakes over time.

Nelson struck gold on January 6 when he hit the $69 million jackpot with the lucky numbers 7, 9, 14, 17, 30 and 33, SVL said in a release.

Nelson, who purchased his ticket at the Gayle Liquour Store in St Mary, said he also used his trusty rake book to breakdown the meanings in the dreams.

“I dreamed about some friends and family who have passed on and used a book to interpret the dreams. I had a dream that I stepped in mud and I know that mud and dirt is 30. I picked out six numbers from the dream, the dream had a house, married woman and some others. I bought all the rakes in the dream,” he said.

Nelson said he has played Lotto religiously since the game began as a way to escape hardship that has defined most of his life.

“I was raised by my mom, a single mother with several siblings. I never really had an education, but I did what I had to do to survive,” he said.

Nelson said the radio that he uses to listen to the Supreme Ventures results was not working on the morning following the draw and that it was a neighbour who visited brought him the results of the Lotto draw.

Nelson said that he only has plans to assist his children and invest.

Stefan Miller, Vice President at Product Management and Business Development at Prime Sports (Jamaica) Limited, the SVL subsidiary with responsibility for the Lotto game said the jackpot hit is a good start to the year.

“This is a great start to 2021, not just for Mr Nelson but for the Group. We are in the business of creating winners every day and all our operations are geared towards helping Jamaicans live their best life with games built on fun and integrity,” he said.

Two days after Nelson’s jackpot hit, SVL handed over $301.5 million to a Super Lotto winner.

Supreme Ventures, Edufocal partner to provide access to online learning

MINISTER of state in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Robert Morgan, has hailed the partnership between Supreme Ventures Foundation and EduFocal which will provide 5,000 students with free access to the EduFocal platform to continue their online learning.

Under the agreement, students will benefit from zero-rated access to EduFocal’s online educational resources over the next three months.

Speaking at the launch of the partnership last Friday, Morgan said the support is highly appreciated and is a welcomed addition to Government’s measures to ensure that learning is sustained during the coronavirus pandemic.

He urged other entities to lend their support in order to ensure that children can continue their education.

Morgan also used the occasion to urge Jamaicans to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols, noting that any activity that causes the virus to continue to spread will negatively impact the reopening of schools.

“The longer we take to open our schools…the bigger the psychosocial and socio-economic impact [it] will have on the society,” Morgan pointed out.

Deputy chief executive officer at Supreme Ventures, Heather Goldson said the partnership is in response to the challenges being faced by students at this time.

She said that the entity is pleased to provide additional tools for students to access learning.

For his part, chief executive officer of EduFocal, Gordon Swaby noted that the online learning and examination preparation platform provides students with the tools and resources needed to excel. It identifies gaps that they may have in various subjects, and helps them to overcome those challenges, he said.

“If a child is struggling in a particular subject area, we can pick that up on the platform and a resource person can help this child in the areas that they are having challenges,” noted Swaby.

Jamaican 'Black Panther' claims $301.5 million Super Lotto prize

A Jamaican man claimed his J$301.5 million Super Lotto prize wearing a Black Panther costume on Friday.

Gaming company Supreme Ventures welcomed the latest member to its ‘super millionaire’ club with the recent handover of the jackpot to the man it only identified as G Samuels.

Samuels purchased his lucky J$300 Quick Pick ticket from the Lotto Super Store in Clock Tower plaza in St Andrew. He’s one of two Jamaican winners of the multi-jurisdictional game in 2020, having won with the numbers 03, 14, 25, 33, 35 and Super Ball 02 for draw #1159.

In line with the trend of lottery winners collecting their prize in disguise to protect their privacy, Samuels showed up at the handover ceremony wearing a Black Panther costume. He said he has been playing Lotto for 19 years and has always had faith that he would win.[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5061″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]Samuels aims to use his massive pay day to kick back and relax for the foreseeable future.

“I didn’t really have any particular goal in mind. I just wanted to win enough money so I could retire and buy a house and a car. Now I am able to do way more than that and I’m excited about all the things I can do with my winnings,” he said.

Samuels, who purchased his Super Lotto ticket days in advance, says he went to his usual haunt to buy Cash Pot when, in checking his tickets, he found out that he won a whopping $301.5 million in the Super Lotto.

Chief Marketing Officer for Supreme Ventures, Heather Goldson said making two Super Lotto millionaires in 2020 was a bright spot in a gloomy year.

“2020 was a very challenging year for everyone the world over, but Supreme thankfully continues to change lives through our games.  Winners of Super Lotto and Lotto are dramatically impacted due to the massive size of our jackpots, and we are very excited for our latest super millionaire! We appreciate our customers and encourage everyone to stay safe while playing,” she said.

Samuels said that since winning the $301.5 million, he has also won over $100,000 with Supreme’s Cash Pot game.
